A few weeks ago I was able to find an old Seiko 5 Actus from May 1976. In general, buying watches on eBay can be tricky and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for their first watch or just starting with their new collection. However, if you’re patient and know what to look for, you can find something really cool and at a price you wouldn’t expect.
The watch wasn’t in a great condition and I knew it would require some work. Once it arrived, I’ve noticed that the bracelet was glued on to the case and there was no way I could take the it off the watch without damaging the end links.
I mentioned that the watch needed some attention. Once it arrived, I took it to a repair shop where it was cleaned and got new crystal. Since it was an eBay purchase, I was preparing myself for a bigger expense and some costly repairs but that didn’t happen.
What I like about it?
This watch wins its wrist time with simplicity, durability, perfect size and +40 years of being a reliable timekeeper. I own another Seiko 5 so I knew this model fits my wrist and I don’t even notice while wearing it.
I tried a few different straps and to be honest, I’m still not convinced whether to go with a nato or a leather strap. That might change depending on what I do on a particular day.
And to wrap up this post, take a look at the video below. There are a few dust particles on the crystal so I apologize for that, but putting that part aside, I’m really linking how this silver dial reflects light. Oh… and that Kanji day/date window is 🔥🔥🔥.
